FDLE commonly processes the biometric submission within approximately 24 hours, based on typical applicant feedback. Agency-specific review (AHCA, DOE, DBPR, DCF) then commonly takes an additional 1–7 business days depending on the agency and the complexity of your record. Common Reasons for Background Check Delays
Rejected fingerprints: If FDLE could not read your fingerprint images clearly, they reject the submission and you must be re-fingerprinted. This resets the processing clock. A rejection notice appears in the TCN status portal.
Incorrect ORI number: Using the wrong ORI can send your results to the wrong agency or cause your submission to fail processing entirely. Always confirm your ORI with your employer before fingerprinting.
High submission volume: During peak periods — start of school year for DOE, healthcare hiring surges for AHCA — processing times can extend beyond the usual range.
Criminal history review: Applicants with any criminal history, including arrests without convictions, may require manual review by FDLE or the requesting agency, which takes significantly longer.
Incomplete demographic information: Errors in your name, date of birth, or Social Security Number in the submission can cause processing delays or administrative holds.
What to Check When Your Background Check Is Delayed
First: Check your TCN status at fdle.state.fl.us/TCN-Status. The portal shows whether your submission is pending, processed, or rejected. If rejected, you need to schedule a re-print appointment.
Second: Confirm with your employer or licensing agency that they received your submission and their account is set up correctly to receive results. Some delays occur because of administrative issues on the agency's end rather than FDLE.
Third: Contact the requesting agency directly. For AHCA delays, visit ahca.myflorida.com for contact information. For DOE delays, contact your school district HR. For DBPR delays, check your MyFloridaLicense account.
If Your Prints Were Rejected
A rejection doesn't mean something was found in your background — it means FDLE couldn't read your fingerprint images clearly enough to process them. You simply need to be re-fingerprinted.

Contact the requesting agency directly and provide your TCN number. They can look up your submission in the FDLE system and determine whether there's an issue on their end preventing clearance from populating.
