What Is an ORI Number?
An ORI (Originating Agency Identifier) is a unique 9-character code assigned by the FBI to agencies authorized to request background checks. In Florida, each state agency and employer type has one or more specific ORI codes.
The ORI tells FDLE where to send your background check results. Using the wrong ORI will send your results to the wrong agency — or cause your fingerprint submission to be rejected.
Check with Your Employer or Licensing Agency
The most reliable source for your ORI number is the agency or employer requiring the background check. Ask your HR department, hiring manager, licensing agent, or DCF caseworker for the exact ORI code.
Many agencies provide ORI numbers in their welcome packets, licensing application forms, or onboarding paperwork. Check these materials first.
Check Your Agency's Official Website
Most Florida agencies publish their ORI numbers on official websites. For AHCA, visit ahca.myflorida.com. For FDOH, visit floridahealth.gov. For DOE, visit fldoe.org. Look for sections on background checks, employment screening, or licensing requirements.
If the ORI isn't listed directly, look for a fingerprinting or background check FAQ section on the agency website.
