What is AHCA Fingerprinting?

AHCA fingerprinting refers to an FDLE-approved Live Scan fingerprint background check required by the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). It is used to conduct a Level 2 background check, which includes a search of both Florida (FDLE) and FBI national criminal records databases.

Unlike a name-based check, a fingerprint-based Level 2 background check is tied to your biometric identity — meaning results cannot be falsified by using a different name or date of birth. Florida law (§435.04, Florida Statutes) requires Level 2 background screening for most workers in positions of trust or responsibility with access to clients.

Sky Bright LiveScan is an FDLE-registered Live Scan fingerprinting provider in Miami Lakes, FL. We capture your fingerprints digitally and transmit them electronically to FDLE the same day.

Who Needs AHCA Fingerprinting?

AHCA fingerprinting is generally required for workers employed by AHCA-regulated healthcare providers who will have direct client contact or access to records. The following categories commonly require AHCA fingerprinting — however, requirements vary by employer, facility type, and the specific AHCA-regulated program:

  • Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) — initial certification and some renewals
  • Home Health Aides (HHAs) employed by licensed home health agencies
  • Assisted Living Facility (ALF) staff with direct patient contact
  • Nurses (RNs, LPNs) at AHCA-regulated facilities
  • Adult Day Care workers
  • Companion or sitter services staff
  • Administrators and owners of AHCA-licensed facilities

Always confirm your specific fingerprinting requirement with your employer or directly with AHCA before scheduling.

How the AHCA Clearinghouse Works

The AHCA Background Screening Clearinghouse (sometimes called the 'Clearinghouse') is a statewide system that stores and shares the results of background screenings for Florida healthcare and social services workers. Once you are screened through the Clearinghouse, your employer may be able to access your clearance status electronically without you needing to be re-fingerprinted every time you start a new job at another AHCA-regulated employer.

However, the Clearinghouse does not automatically grant clearance to all new employers. Each employer must independently verify your status in the Clearinghouse. Additionally, re-fingerprinting may still be required in some circumstances — confirm with your new employer whether your existing Clearinghouse status is sufficient.

Sky Bright LiveScan helps with fingerprint capture and submission. We do not have access to, and cannot view, modify, or influence Clearinghouse records, eligibility decisions, or background check results.

Call to confirm current pricing before your visit. (4) Visit our office at 5901 NW 151 St Ste 206, Miami Lakes, FL 33014.

What to Bring

You must bring: (1) A valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID — Florida driver's license, Florida state ID, U.S. passport, military ID, or Permanent Resident Card (Green Card). (2) Your ORI number, provided by your employer's HR department. (3) Payment — we accept cash, credit/debit card, and money order.

Without a valid ORI number, we cannot submit your fingerprints to the correct agency. Contact your employer or AHCA directly if you are unsure of your ORI.

ORI Numbers for AHCA

ORI numbers for AHCA submissions vary depending on your employer type, specific facility, and the AHCA program you are applying under. There is no single universal AHCA ORI — your employer's HR department, administrator, or AHCA directly can provide the correct ORI for your specific situation.

Our Florida ORI Number Directory lists commonly reported ORI codes for reference. These codes are provided for informational purposes only and should always be verified with your requesting agency before your appointment. Using the wrong ORI can result in your fingerprints being submitted to the wrong agency, causing delays.

Processing Times

AHCA background check results are commonly reported as becoming available in the AHCA Clearinghouse within approximately 2–5 business days after Live Scan fingerprinting, based on typical applicant feedback. Processing times vary by case, workload, and complexity and are not guaranteed.

You can track your FDLE submission status using the TCN number provided after your appointment at: fdle.state.fl.us/TCN-Status. For Clearinghouse status, contact AHCA or your employer.
