What Is an ORI Number?

An ORI (Originating Agency Identifier) is a 9-character code assigned by the FBI to a specific Florida agency authorized to request FDLE criminal history background checks. When you get fingerprinted, the ORI tells the FDLE system which agency should receive your results.

If you use the wrong ORI, your fingerprints may be sent to the wrong agency, your background check may not be credited to the correct program, and you may experience significant delays — or be required to get re-fingerprinted.

Why AHCA ORI Numbers Vary

Unlike some other Florida agencies that use a single universal ORI, AHCA has multiple ORI numbers that vary depending on your employer type, the AHCA-regulated program, and sometimes the specific facility. This means there is no one-size-fits-all AHCA ORI.

For example, a home health agency may have a different ORI than an ALF or an adult day care center. This is why your employer is the most reliable source for your specific ORI — they are registered with AHCA under a specific program and know which ORI applies to your position.
