What Is DBPR Fingerprinting?
The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) requires a Level 2 fingerprint background check for most professional license applicants in Florida. This includes real estate sales associates and brokers, general contractors, cosmetologists, barbers, insurance professionals, hotel and restaurant employees, and other regulated occupations.

If Your Fingerprints Are Rejected
Rejections happen — here's what to know
FDLE occasionally rejects prints due to poor ridge quality, worn skin, or dry fingertips — not because of anything on your record. Rejection is uncommon with digital Live Scan equipment, but it does happen.
- If FDLE rejects your prints, you will receive a re-print notice.
- Sky Bright LiveScan re-prints at no additional charge.
- We will schedule a new appointment quickly — same-day is often available.
- Moisturizing your fingertips for a few days before your appointment reduces rejection risk.
Common DBPR Fingerprinting Mistakes to Avoid
Using an outdated ORI number — DBPR ORI codes are tied to specific license types and are periodically updated. Always use the ORI listed on your current DBPR application letter, not one from a previous filing or an unofficial list.
Not knowing your exact license category before arriving — DBPR covers dozens of professions. The ORI for a real estate sales associate (FL920010Z) differs from an appraiser (FL922050Z) or construction licensing (FL923400Z). Confirm your license type with DBPR first.
Submitting fingerprints too late in the application process — DBPR license applications cannot be fully processed until your background check clears. Getting fingerprinted early in the process avoids holding up your license issuance.
