What Is FDOH Fingerprinting?

The Florida Department of Health (FDOH) requires a Level 2 background check for licensed healthcare professionals in Florida, including registered nurses, LPNs, EMTs, paramedics, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and other allied health professionals. Fingerprints are captured digitally via Live Scan and submitted electronically to FDLE.

If Your Fingerprints Are Rejected

Rejections happen — here's what to know

FDLE occasionally rejects prints due to poor ridge quality, worn skin, or dry fingertips — not because of anything on your record. Rejection is uncommon with digital Live Scan equipment, but it does happen.

  • If FDLE rejects your prints, you will receive a re-print notice.
  • Sky Bright LiveScan re-prints at no additional charge.
  • We will schedule a new appointment quickly — same-day is often available.
  • Moisturizing your fingertips for a few days before your appointment reduces rejection risk.

Common FDOH Fingerprinting Mistakes to Avoid

Confusing FDOH ORI codes by profession — FDOH uses different ORI numbers for nursing, EMTs, pharmacy, and each allied health field. Using a nursing ORI for a pharmacy license application (or vice versa) will cause delays or rejections.

Assuming AHCA clearance covers FDOH-licensed roles — AHCA and FDOH are separate agencies with separate clearance systems. Nurses working in AHCA-regulated facilities often need both. One does not substitute for the other.

Not confirming whether your license is initial or renewal — some FDOH renewals require fresh fingerprinting; others do not. Check with FDOH or your licensing board before scheduling to avoid an unnecessary appointment.
