What Is DCF Fingerprinting?
The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) requires Level 2 background checks for anyone working with children or vulnerable adults in DCF-regulated programs. This includes licensed childcare centers, family day care homes, after-school programs, foster care placements, group homes, and substance abuse treatment facilities.

If Your Fingerprints Are Rejected
Rejections happen — here's what to know
FDLE occasionally rejects prints due to poor ridge quality, worn skin, or dry fingertips — not because of anything on your record. Rejection is uncommon with digital Live Scan equipment, but it does happen.
- If FDLE rejects your prints, you will receive a re-print notice.
- Sky Bright LiveScan re-prints at no additional charge.
- We will schedule a new appointment quickly — same-day is often available.
- Moisturizing your fingertips for a few days before your appointment reduces rejection risk.
Common DCF Fingerprinting Mistakes to Avoid
Using the wrong ORI for your provider type — DCF uses different ORI codes for licensed childcare centers, family day care homes, shelter care, and mental health programs. Your director or DCF caseworker must confirm the correct ORI before your appointment.
Name discrepancies between your ID and your DCF application — the full legal name on your government-issued photo ID must exactly match your DCF application. Any mismatch can delay or invalidate your background check.
Not knowing whether your employer or you submit independently — some DCF-regulated programs handle Clearinghouse submissions directly; others require the employee to go in independently. Confirm the process with your employer before scheduling.
